New Moon in Libra
Blessed Navratri
October 8, 2018
As many Hindus, prepare for Navratri, others will be drawn to the beautiful new moon in Libra. The void of the moon will bring the skies to pitch black on October 8, 2018 at approximately 11:47pm Est and 8:47 pm PST. We will then be graced with the Libra New Moon at 15 degrees.
Those that will be affected by this vivid moon would be those that are born in the latter part of Libra October 15-23, and those that have Libra in their chart. It does not matter where moon sign is placed; it matters to know what area in your life will be will be impacted by the energy of this moon.
Though the moon has never been at 15 degrees in the 21st century, the closest to this energy would have been in 2010 when it was at 14 degrees in Libra. It will not be at this exact degree until 2048 when it returns for a recheck.
The new moon is always about personal cycles. It gives us the dynamism we need to set goals towards the things we want the most. One of our major tasks is to appreciate relationships, and this is what this new moon is all about. But to end relationship when it is not meeting our needs. To only open doors to new ones.
The focal point for the moon is fresh starts in every sector of your life that requires change. Nevertheless, we are disposed to act out of duress; this new moon forces us to act out of emotion, trusting that things will go as planned. If it fails we learn.
The new moon forces us to think about planting those seeds which may have been considered before and looking at opportunities that embrace the types of people, places, and things that are yearned for, if it is not obsessive. Hence, planting seeds to your garden, changing your fashion, or even finding that perfect job, is the seed of change. There are bits of warning here; don’t plants seeds hastily or on a whim as they may be more than you are able to bear. Do it out of the heart, without any expectations, and embrace whatever that is brought to you.
The full moon, and for days after, shook up relationships or created problems with relationships. The new moon brings a fresh future to change the things that no longer fit the adapted lifestyle.
The new moon is a beginning of birth/re-birth; what is clear and changing on steadiness. It’s time to spend alone time to imagine goals, bring them to prosperity, and embrace the transformation that is sublime.
However, this is not just an ordinary new moon, it marks a very important date for Hindus, known as “Navratri.” This is the second biggest holiday of the Hindu culture. Its name, Navratri, translates to Nav which means nine, and arti which means worship. If one is living in any large Indian community or near any large Indian shops, or if you are lucky to be living in India, you would see divas (lamps), lights, flowers, and every home decorated with vivid colors of delight and festivities. The reasoning behind this festival is the battle between good and evil. Hence, each region celebrates it differently.
Since I am from Gujarat I will be explaining my personal definition of Navratri in relation to my upbringing. Navratri focused on asking for blessings from Goddess (Durga); in Gujarat we call her Amba. She is also known as Goddess Shakti (strength). However, it has been told it is the reincarnation of Parvati (Shiva’s Wife) who has three forms which form the energy of the universe. Therefore, this holiday is divided into three sets of three days, one for each form. Without going too deep into the history of Navratri, which could take many pages, I will summarize by saying that some people fast for all 9 days; however, since times have changed, it’s been changed to a half-day fast, eating only fruit and nuts and drinking water during the day.
The first three nights (Oct 9, 10, and 11) are dedicated to Goddess Durga. This is to thank her for helping us overcome evil. Thereafter, it is requested from Durga to give us knowledge and peace. The second three nights (Oct 12, 13, and 14) are dedicated to Goddess Saraswati who is also known to give or bless humanity with knowledge, wisdom, education and the removal of unfamiliarity.
The last three nights (Oct 15, 16, and 17) is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi who is known to bring prosperity and blessings. Every night includes festivities with pooja, fasting, and Raas Garba (a traditional dance). Gujarati’s will celebrate 9 days of vibrancy and holiness which is what Gujarat is known for.
During the new moon there are self-centered propensities where there may be worries about other people’s motivations and questions about whether others fit the way you observe life. Due to the inner and outer conflict of good versus evil it is again a time to purify your soul. Since the new moon produces struggles between the status quo and possibilities, by cleansing your mind and spirit you will honor your life journey and find ways to release.
A new moon in Libra has a romantic connotation as well as social. There is a greater need to reconcile ideas between different people that we care for. The new moon in Libra permits us to be contented and charming. It also desires kindness and mutual friendliness; both of which are needed so we can see the best in the people around us. There is a robust suggestion that during the Libra moon some sort of a stimulus may come forth to bring some poise where there may have been struggles.
Libra moon inspires us to treasure peace inside ourselves, so we can convey, mediate, and reestablish the balance needed with families and friends. It is also a time to bring flowers into your home and redecorate it, beautify and cleanse to welcome friends. It may even force people to learn art, write, change fashions, and indulge in things we cannot afford.
Additionally, this melodious moon encourages equality and allows us to bring new people into our lives; if it is to bring someone new or to filter out skirmishes so that important matters are more balanced it does not matter if there is harmony and peace. The scales of Libra are very rare; it is the only sign that does not have a living thing attached to it, but it is a sign of balance. This means that we are disposed to be neutral, where the head may rule over the heart – it’s a necessity to explore your own self before you can make decisions in any area of a relationship. This is the time to give good purposes towards any conflicts.
Advise to Libra’s for the rest of the year:
As you may have been unsure what you wanted to do in the past, now the time has come for you to know where you are going and how you are going to get there. If you have not seen it already, your hard work has/will pay off. Hard work and clear goals will help you and learning new skills will give you the clarity you need to continue moving forward. Long term relationship decisions are best after December as you may lose your patience any time sooner. Your financial life will pick up now until December, however you may also incur additional expenses. The more stresses you take on, the more it will take a toll on your health. Your charisma is going to be on the upswing in November, which will give you the energy you need to acquire more monetary gains. The end of the year looks better than any other month and you may decide to move into some more spiritual inclinations.
Please remember this is general advice; everyone has different aspects that could stand in the way of the predispositions listed above.
The New moon in Libra, which is the first New moon after the Autumn Equinox, forces us to look very intensely within ourselves to see what has not worked and what has. Try not to negotiate for sake of peace if it is not what you really want. True cooperation is made with civility, admiration, honesty, compliance, and trust.
As I have stated in my blog, full moons are very auspicious in the Vedic Philosophies and this is the time to begin anew (unlike the Western ideology). Alternatively, when there is darkness from a new moon, there is darkness in the human soul which means endings of some kind. Therefore, there exist the possibilities of conflicts or misunderstandings during these times. This has to do with our needs conflicting with the needs of others. I would not be surprised if relationship ends during this time, I also would not be surprised if decisions are made for the purposes of all.
Moon in Libra may crave the need of a harmonious relationship with a kind partner to feel at serenity, emotionally. Dependable assessment and equality with others will be the force of the new moon energy.
Libra Moon bring the ideal of sweet relationships. It’s a need to please the people you feel close to and want to reinforce the relationship with empathy, a charming manner, and with music or beautiful things. Libra Moon wants a close friendship, partnership, or marriage to feel cherished and safe. You may have a need for harmony, congruence and pleasant surroundings. In emotional circumstances, the Libra Moon tends to act very sensibly and strives to make fair decisions.
Altogether it’s a lovely time for social get together; when the awareness of self, as expressed in the first six signs of the zodiac, becomes united with the consciousness of needs and desires of others. While all may not be well for everyone on the astrological front, for some it will be something that will glorify: Take this time to enjoy every part of you and know that if nothing changes then you are not changing.
Since the moon in Libra represents Plea, Beautiful, Comfortable, Nondiscriminatory, and Affectionate, it is my suggestion to remain balanced. This New moon is extraordinary to many signs. It is also my suggestion to purchase a yellow candle and carve your name through to the wick. Anoint the candle with lavender or peppermint oil and chant the Psalm 26.
You may also choose to recite a mantra every morning until the next moon cycle. The four mantras, from easiest to most efficient, will assist you in bringing peace into your life.
Om Hreeng Kleeng Shreeng
Ommm Hriing Kliiing Shriing
Difficult
Om Tatva Niranjanaya Tarakramaya Namaha
Advance
OM draamg dreeng droung sah shukray namah
Om Rajadabaaya vidmahe, Brigusuthaya dhimahi,
Tanno sukrah prachodayat
Expert
Om Sarvabaadhaa Vinirmukto, Dhan Dhaanyah Sutaanvitah
Manushyo Matprasaaden Bhavishyati Na Sanshayah.
Om Om Shree Mahalakshmyai Cha Vidraahe Vishnu Patrayai Cha Dheemahi Tanno Lakshmi Prachodayat Om
This mantra produces the quality of friendships within oneself and others.
Please note that I am not an astrologer, nor do I claim to be. However, the values of the planets play a great prominence on Vedic Sanskrit Readings. In the Hindu philosophies it states that we are mortal beings and we will always respond to our environment through ego driven actions until we can surpass the ego, become one with the universal energies, and learn to adapt to what is in front of us with a complete embrace.
I wish you the best of the new moon and hope that you are able to capture the truth during the full moon so you can began your journey into sublime bliss.
Remember, if you have never seen what Navratri is about, it may be beneficial for you to stop at a Hindu temple and see for yourself the vibrancy of the festivities.
Namaste
