Many times, the full moon is known as an omen and often blamed for craziness in people and the world.  However, a full moon is known as a blessing in the Vedic culture and it is known as poonam; one of the most auspicious times of the month.

Even though the full moon will take center stage for many of us in the United States on August 20, 2013 at 9:45 pm EST and 6:45 pm PST, for those in India this begins the most beautiful auspicious time known as Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi Purnima.

This blissful event is focused around the relationship between brothers (men) and sisters (women/girls).  In the ancient days, queens of the town celebrated this even as a part of brotherhood.  It falls exactly on the full moon.  Raksha Bundhan is celebrated when a holy thread is tied around the wrist by a girl or woman to a man or a child she considers her brother.  The thread represents a long life obligation to provide protection to the woman and girl.  By accepting the Rakhi the brother or adopted brother makes a promise that he will forever protect her and often offers a gift of money, cloths or things that she may need.  No matter how auspicious this event is, this full moon will defiantly give an awakening to many.

The Leo-Aquarius moon will fall into 28 degrees of Leo-Aquarius. This mooon could cause some difficulties since Leo energy has a natural tendency to control and lead whereas Aquarius needs a natural freedom.  The 28 degrees in Aquarius always focuses on Karmic changes and restraints.  Whatever changes need to be made must be made with the heart realizing that every decision has its price.

The full moon in August is often known as the Full Red moon because in August it seems that it is the hottest time of the year.  As we look above at the sun it seems naturally red and the glare from the sun often causes haziness.  Hence, this moon is also very much respected by the Europeans who named the first moon in August as the Corn moon; when the green leaves appear on the corn fields to ripen the corn.

When the Moon is full, there is a natural push and pull which creates an imbalance in the mood and nature of humans.  This is because of the gravitational pull between the moon and the earth.  Expect some issues regarding water or storms during this time.

Full moon energies will begin at least 5 to 7 days before the actual event.  Full moons are about climaxes, closing chapters in lives, and the end that was bound to happen.  No matter how difficult it may seem for one door to close, another opens for a better tomorrow.

This affect can be escalated for those who have the sun, moon or any houses in Aquarius.  People having a birthday February 09 or five days before or after will feel this energy like no other. There is no doubt that this energy creates discomfort yet completeness – and may help us to connect substantially with others. Everything becomes crisp and more powerful under the light of the Full Moon – passion and self-worth can become quite exaggerated, and there is more consciousness and focus on relationships.

However, no matter what is said, Neptune is still retrograde and won’t be direct until November.  While Neptune retrogrades it is about looking at the past; how things were once so confusing and we are digging to get answers. We also have to pay for our debts of the past.  They can seem one of the most difficult moons as the energy seems to be really awkward.

Energy which passes the solar system on the 20/21 of August could cause those that are very intuitive to have vivid dreams and for others, it may be difficult to sleep. Please be cautious of the sporadic energy due to recklessness. There is a greater tendency to get hurt or involved in an accident where excessive bleeding and hemorrhaging could cause delays in healing.  On the positive side, Love and Romance could become the theme under a Full Moon, especially around midnight. In a full moon there is a greater calling to become highly determined, clear minded, and aware of your own wishes as well as the needs of others. Plant herbs at this time; bring something new into your life.

Since the sun is still in Leo and the moon enters Aquarius, both of these signs are in the area of being artistic and communication is from the heart but can lean toward the risky. The voice in your mind may say, “I am in charge” (Leo) and the public, friends, and family may feel the awareness of “I need my freedom” (Aquarius).  Basically, these two energies equate to asking the question of whether we are healthy enough by looking at our emotions, physical wellbeing and spiritual inclination.

These are general tendencies and not to be exact in everyone. However, each Astrological chart is unique and I would suggest that you set private time with Leslie Hale, (Western Astrologer) and discuss how the effects of planets will influence road blocks or sublime bliss.

In Native Lore, this Full Moon was known as the MOON OF MATURING BERRIES; it’s also known as the Raspberry moon. During this time, ripe berries were gathered and used for paints, dyes, and as a source of Vitamin C. Health and inspiration is highlighted and there is a sense of well-being and excitement to this lunation. During any full moon your psyche may be activated but do not react until you are absolutely sure. The mind will play tricks and later there may be a need to save grace and face.

With the moon in Aquarius there is sensitive detachment – a knack for independence regarding feelings. However, at the same time, Aquarius moon brings a sense of impartiality and often, uniqueness. There may be tendency to feel like an outsider looking in.  Viewing expressive situations logically and scientifically may be the best thing to do. Feelings may come up randomly. The tension in this moon will be to make a choice what is more important; personal yearning or what is good for the soul and spirit. For emotional fulfillment seek the company of friends who do not judge.

Full Moons in AIR SIGNS are times when the Moon exerts its frailest inspiration, because the Sun as Life Giver is strong in the FIRE signs. The Aquarius moon represents the Harvest Moon, a time for celebration and rejoicing; emotions are strong and of a happy and carefree nature. Of course this applies primarily to those whose charts are not unduly afflicted in the sign of Aquarius and the other fixed signs.

Since the moon in Aquarius represents Disobedient, Desolate, Cogent, welcoming, and erratic, it is my suggestion for us to remain balanced.  This full moon is extraordinary to many signs. It is my suggestion that you purchase an orange candle and carve your name through the wick.  Anoint the candle with lavender oil or sage oil and chant the psalm 51.  Perhaps choose to recite a mantra every morning until the next moon cycle. Remember that with all applications of psalms and mantras, achieving the desired consequences are dependent upon the excellence of purpose, and when it comes to finding fulfilling relationships, it is of the greatest importance to be clear and understanding of what your goal should be. The mantras can be hard to pronounce for many but it is a powerful source of energy the mantra for Aquarius moon is:

“Om sri Shanaishwaraya Namaha”

(Om shri shan-ish-waraya nahm ah ha)

This mantra produces the quality of friendship within oneself including others.

The intention of this mantra is smooth your path in life by helping you understand the lessons you have set for yourself and through karma, the negativity will be surpassed.

With every moon cycle, remember to cross out the old affirmation even if there is a slightest change and create new ones. The perfect number for aspiration is 10.  This means to list 10 aspirations and recite them every night until the next moon cycle.  Remember never make the affirmations beginning with “I want”; it must be worded “I need to be shown how to retain”

These are general tendencies based upon Vedic and Western Astrology intertwined. To be as clear as possible, I am NOT an astrologer nor do I claim to be, however Astrology is a building block to the Vedic Sanskrit readers.  While astrology focuses on fixed responses to physical and psychological events, a Vedic reader focuses on corrective factors to deal with the energy in hand.  While Astrology focuses on actions, Vedic looks at triggers which cause an action and in turn, instigates a reaction. Hindu ideology confers that these utilities are necessary part of our lives since our mind directs the ego and it’s our emotions that sets the plans into action; good or bad. If the action chosen is passed through humility and honesty then life will always bring out positive outcomes at the end.

Wishing you the most pleasurable and safest journey through this full moon and I hope you are granted the positive light you desire.
